Fanny (Alteri) Lumia's Obituary
Fanny (Alteri) Lumia passed away on November 28, 2018 at the age of 95. Fanny, the daughter of Frank and Eugenia (Calvarese) Alteri was born in Syracuse on October 15,1923 and lived here most of her life. She married Vincent Lumia in 1946 and was predeceased by him in 2000. In 2013 Fanny moved to Ballston Lake, NY to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Lawrence Sowers.
Mrs. Lumia worked at the Muench Kreuzer Candle Company for many years. During her employment she was a shop steward and was elected as the union president.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings: Mary Tucci, Joseph, Anthony, Michael, Louis and Frank.
Fanny is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Lawrence Sowers of Ballston Lake, NY; her granddaughter, Emily Sowers-Elsworth and her husband Benjamin of Greenwich, NY; her sister-in-law, Dodie Alteri, and many nieces and nephews.
Fanny will be remembered for her generous and loving nature. Family and friends will miss her delicious homemade pizzelles and pasta.
The family would like to thank the staff of Baptist Health Center in Scotia, NY for the care and kindnesses shown to Fanny during her residency.
A calling hour will be held on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 9 – 10 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 425 Beechwood Ave., Liverpool, NY, immediately followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Fanny’s life at 10:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave, Syracuse, NY 13208.
