Fortunato "Fred" Galtieri's Obituary
Fortunato “Fred” Galtieri, 91, of Newark, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, October 14, 2018. He was born in Syracuse, NY, son of the late Dominick and Fortunata (Zucco) Galtieri. Fred was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in WWII in SE Asia. He was Past Commander of the V.F.W. in Newark, and a member of the American Legion and B.P.O.E Club where he was an avid bowler and golfer. Fred was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church and was the owner/operator of his own upholstery business for many years.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Gloria (Furfaro) Galtieri; his brother, Frankie; sisters, Anne, Marie and Nancy (Warren).
Fred is survived by his daughter, Florence (Galtieri) Drago and husband, Thomas; his grandson, Joseph Drago; brothers, Joseph (Alta), Louis, Pasquale, and James (Joan) Galtieri; his sister, Anna Carocci; nieces, nephews, cousins and his companion, Shirley Houck.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to all his caregivers at Clifton Springs Hospital.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 from 10 am – 12 pm, followed by a Funeral Service in celebration of Fortunato’s life at noon at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
