Frances Carmel (Barbagallo) Bonocora's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Frances Carmel Bonocora, who left this world peacefully on February 26, 2026, at the age of 89.
Born on November 2, 1936, in Syracuse, N.Y., to Peter S. and Frances M. Barbagallo, Frances was united in marriage to Peter Bonocora on May 30, 1962, at St. John the Baptist Church in Syracuse.
Frances wore many hats throughout her life and was known for her remarkable work ethic. Her career spanned banking, a law firm, and many years of dedicated service to the Syracuse City School District, from which she eventually retired. Frances also dedicated time to supporting the Sisters of St. Francis and the compassionate mission of Francis House, which provides care to the terminally ill.
To her family, Frances was the heart of the home. An extraordinary cook, she had the rare and effortless gift of feeding a crowd with grace and joy. Her home was always warm, welcoming, and full of the aromas of her cooking and the sounds of family gathered together. She hosted countless holidays, birthdays, and celebrations, creating treasured memories that will live on in all who were fortunate enough to be part of them.
Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, whom she loved beyond measure. She cherished every moment with them and was a steady, loving presence in their lives. Her generosity and devotion were especially evident in the care she provided for her twin granddaughters while their father worked long hours.
She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Frances Barbagallo; her brother, Joseph Barbagallo; her in‑laws, Samuel and Margaret Bonocora; and her sisters‑in‑law, Adele Seamon, Clementine Howard, and Marguerite (Midge) Bonocora.
Frances is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Peter Bonocora; her sons, Steven (Julie Gubbins) and Richard (Caren Stark) Bonocora; and her beloved grandchildren: Mindy, Samantha, Paige, Harlow, and Miles. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends who will deeply miss her warmth, generosity, and infectious smile.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026 from 10:45 – 11:45 am at St. John the Baptist/Holy Trinity Church, followed by a funeral Mass in celebration of Frances’ life at 12 pm at the church, 406 Court St., Syracuse, NY. She will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
