Frances Diane Carroll's Obituary
Frances Diane Carroll, of Camillus, passed away November 30, at Francis House, Syracuse. She was 83.
Frances was unique in many respects, whether it was her thirst for knowledge, her interest in current events, or her love of classic movies. A longtime member of the Toastmasters Club, of Syracuse, she recently was honored by her fellow club members for her participation in the organization and her ability to bring together people of diverse walks of life for common interests.
She attended Le Moyne College and worked for many years at the Hiscock & Barclay law firm, in Syracuse. Considered a renaissance woman by many, just a few of her accomplishments were ham radio, graphology, numerology, miniatures, writing, opera, and square dancing.
Frances was known and admired for her ability to entertain in her Camillus home. Many of the events were held in her garden-style back yard, but no gathering was complete without her use of cut glassware, intricate table settings and antique silver. Her back yard was a comfortable place for adults, and children who enjoyed a large playhouse, complete with a curtained stage.
To say Frances was creative was an understatement. Her home and garden were rich with antique collector items. Her ability to decorate her house was shared with her sense of style. Never without a beret, Frances most often wore ensembles that were truly singular. She had an extensive collection of vintage jewelry, accessories and scarves.
Frances loved classic music and movies, especially movies that included Fred Astaire or Mae West.
Those who knew Frances were fortunate to be in the company of someone who could find the humor in almost any situation. Even during her illness Frances summoned the ability to make light of it if for no other reason than to put her family and friends at ease.
She was predeceased by her late husband, Walter E. Carroll and longtime companion, Thomas Kaiser of Long Island.
She is survived by her daughters, Wendy Lavis (Brian) of Torrance, CA, Connie Carroll of Fayetteville; and her son, Brantley Carroll, of Syracuse; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours, at her request, but a Mass celebrating her life for friends and family will be held on Tuesday, December 3 at 10:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church.. Burial at St. Francis Cemetery in Marcellus will be private.
