Frances J. "Dee Dee" (Sunser) Chillemi's Obituary
Frances J. “Dee Dee” (Sunser) Chillemi, 92, passed away on Friday at Van Duyn. She was born in Syracuse, daughter of the late Carl and Josephine (LaScola) Sunser. Frances was the second youngest and last survivor of eleven children. She was a devoted parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Liverpool since 1961. She was an active member of their Altar Rosary Society and Legion of Mary. Frances was employed in many jobs during her working career including Canteen at GE, volunteer at St. Joseph’s hospital, Fannie Farmer Candy Store and Remington Rand Typewriters. Her most important job however was being a homemaker and raising her family.
She was an avid reader, gardener, enjoyed traveling, and cooking for her family and friends, especially her sauce, meatballs and special cheesecake, passing many of the recipes down to granddaughter Gina.
She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Chillemi in 2013, her siblings, Libby Sunser Logue, Samuel Sunser, Sandina Sunser Rey, Charles Sunser, Mamie Sunser, Eleanor Sunser Penizotto, Rose Sunser Campolieto, Joseph Sunser, Lawrence Sunser and Carl Sunser, Jr. “Sonny”.
She is survived by her children, Anthony (Kathryn) Chillemi; Kathy Chillemi and Donna Chillemi; her beloved grandchildren, Christian Cass and Gina Chillemi; many nieces, nephews, cousins and her forever friend, Mark Cass.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 10 a.m. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, and at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Road (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse.
