Francis J. "Frank" Doherty's Obituary
Francis J. “Frank” Doherty, 87, of North Syracuse, passed away Tuesday at the VA Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Malden, MA and graduated from Malden Catholic High School and Boston College. Frank served as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He was an avid sports fan and an accomplished athlete being inducted into the Malden Catholic Sports Hall of Fame for football. Frank loved his Irish Heritage and moved to North Syracuse in 1964 where he lived for 56 years and was a regular parishioner at St. Rose of Lima Church. He was a voracious reader and regular visitor to the North Syracuse Public Library. Frank continued to work as a salesman and independent contractor until his date of death.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary (Walsh) Doherty; his five children, Kevin (Joyce) Doherty, Brian (Dorese) Doherty, Terence Doherty, Mary Anne (Mary Radford) Doherty and Jeanne Anne (Jim) Bonanni; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Frank’s life at 10:00 am in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
