Francis A. Sacco's Obituary
Francis A. Sacco, beloved son, brother, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, at Iroquois Nursing Home. Francis was born on April 12,1943 to the late Louis and Antoinette (Magnarelli) Sacco.
Francis graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 1961, the last class to graduate from the Willow Street location. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Lemoyne College in 1965 and went on to further his education at Syracuse University and Boston College where he received advanced degrees in education and religious studies.
Francis was an exemplary teacher serving the students at CBA for 41 years, first as a Latin and religion teacher and then as a history teacher. In 1997, he received the purple and gold award from CBA in recognition for his service to the school and most importantly to his students. He was that rare educator who set high academic expectations for his students but also cared deeply for their personal well-being.
Francis lived a faith filled life and served his parish church of Our Lady of Pompei in so many ways: in the early days, joining “The Pompeian Players” and then many years of serving on the liturgy committee, teaching altar servers and filling the role of cantor at weekly services.
Francis is survived by his sister, Patrina, and many close cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Iroquois Nursing Home for the care they gave Francis over the last several years.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 9:15 A.M. – 11:15 A.M. in Our Lady of Pompei – St. Peter Church, 301 Ash Street, Syracuse, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. Francis will be laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be sent to Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 920 North McBride Street, Syracuse, New York, 13208.
