Frank D. Alteri's Obituary
Frank D. Alteri, 87, of Liverpool, passed away on July 13, 2016. He was born in Syracuse to the late Frank and Eugenia (Calvarese) Alteri. Frank graduated from North High School, where he was a member of the football and track teams and was voted Most Popular in his class. Frank joined the Army in 1952 where he served as a supply sergeant. He was the co-owner of Galeville Grocery and Pool Supply for almost 40 years.
Frank was extremely active in many areas of service at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. He was past president of the Lions Club, a member of the Liverpool High School Booster Club, and active in the Salt City Little League. Frank will be remembered for his extreme generosity, as those closest to him recall the countless donations and acts of service that he provided to the community without seeking recognition.
Frank’s hobbies included woodworking, gardening and cooking – especially taking cooking classes in Italy. Everyone enjoyed his cookbook and his many recipes including homemade pasta. He enjoyed having a good glass of wine with his family and friends. Frank also enjoyed traveling to Europe and taking Caribbean cruises with his wife Sue.
He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Sue (Colella) Alteri; brothers, Joseph, Anthony Michael, and Louis Alteri; and his sister, Mary Tucci.
Frank is survived by his children, Kris (Tom) Britton of Onondaga Hill, Cherry (Jim) Swanson of Liverpool, and Frank (Angie) Alteri of Delaware; grandchildren, Matt (Sarah) Britton, Jennifer (Daniel) Pike, Laura Britton, Katie Alteri and Frankie Alteri; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Sophie Pike, and James Britton; sister, Fanny Lumia; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Road (corner of Buckley Road), North Syracuse. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a funeral Mass in celebration of Frank’s life at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 425 Beechwood Ave., Liverpool. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
