Frank J. Barletta's Obituary
Frank J. Barletta, 94 of Bonita Springs, FL passed away Monday, March 7, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Formerly of Syracuse, NY he had been a Bonita Springs resident for the past 38 years. Frank was born December 5, 1923 in Monopoli, Bari, Italy a son of the late Frank and Celeste (Vacco) Barletta. In 1933, he emigrated from Italy when he was 10 years old.
Mr. Barletta was a highly decorated World War II Army Veteran, having attained the rank of Staff Sargent in the Second Indianhead Division; he served in several European campaigns including D-Day-Normandy, The Ardennes in Rhineland and Battle of the Bulge. He received the Bronze Star, French & Belgian Crouch DeGuerre and the French Legion of Honor.
Frank was a Police Officer with the North Syracuse Police Department for 20 years before working 33 years with Carrier Corporation, known today as United Technologies. He was a faithful parishioner and usher at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8877 and Our Lady of the Rosary Assembly 2542. Frank was also a member of the Golden Gate VFW Post 7721.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 39 years, Jean J. (Amodio) Barletta; daughter, Linda Barletta of Bonita Springs, FL; step-sons, Michael (Karen) Rocco of Great Valley, NY, Mark (Deborah) Rocco of Clay, NY, Ralph Rocco of Austin, TX, Paul (Karen) Rocco of Royal Palm Beach, FL; brother, Anthony Basile of Syracuse, NY; 9 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his first wife, Victoria (Dantuono) Barletta; and 5 siblings.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Frank's life will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Christ the King Church, 21 Cherry Tree Circle, Liverpool, NY. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum, 800 Grant Blvd., Syracuse, NY.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
