Frank F. Carfi's Obituary
Frank F. Carfi, our beloved father, with his infectious smile and warm heart, sadly passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020, after a short battle with COVID-19. He was born in Manhattan on August 30, 1927, to Sicilian immigrant parents, Sam and Palma Carfi, later moving to and growing up in Bensonhurst Brooklyn. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. Upon his return, he met and married the love of his life, our mother, Gloria Greco, together they forged ahead during the good times and bad, moving from Brooklyn to Long Island, and finally settling in Syracuse, NY. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage, retiring to Florida to enjoy their golden years with family and friends. Our father was a proud employee of the New York Telephone Company, the original Ma Bell, later retiring from Verizon after 35 years of service. While he loved working outside in the warm weather, he never became a fan of climbing telephone poles in the Syracuse winters. A lover of baseball, especially the Brooklyn Dodgers, our father passed on his dream as a young man to play professionally, but he later enjoyed being a semiprofessional umpire.
He is predeceased by our beloved mother Gloria, 2008; his mother and father, Salvatore and Palma; his brother, Dr. John Carfi of Florida; and his younger sister, Salvatrice Annarumma of Brooklyn. Left to cherish his memory are his three children, daughter, Carol Carfi (Joseph) Adamowicz; son, Michael Carfi (Linda Thomas); and son, Joseph J Carfi; two grandsons, Frank Adamowicz and Nicholas Adamowicz (Caitlin Ditch); and his great granddaughter, Violet Adamowicz.
At the request of our father, no calling hours will be held. Family and friends are welcome to attend the funeral mass this coming Saturday May 8, 2021 at 10:00 am, at St Matthews Church in East Syracuse. To attend the mass remotely, please visit Frank's tribute page at 10 am Saturday at tjpfuneralhome.com.
