Frank P. Scarcella's Obituary
Sadly, Frank P. Scarcella, 92, passed away on February 12, 2020 in Hallandale, Florida. He was born in Palmi, Italy on July 19, 1927 to Carmella and Rocco Scarcella. Frank moved to Syracuse in 1951 and married Carmella on July 3, 1954. He retired from Syracuse Parks and Recreation after 30 years working as a heavy machine operator. He also spent many years working at the NYS Fair, War Memorial, Syracuse Civic Center, and Sky Chiefs Stadium.
Frank was known for his love of gardening, winemaking, especially with his grandson Rocco, and entertaining. He loved traveling to Florida every winter. Frank was happiest when he was surrounded by friends and family. He will be truly missed by all.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Antoinette (Scarcella) Pugliese.
Frank is survived by his wonderful wife of 66 years, Carmella (Pugliese) Scarcella; 3 children, Rosemary (Leonard) Massaro, Antoinette (Nicholas) Longo, and Rocco (Carol) Scarcella; his brothers, Vincent Scarcella and Joseph (Marie) Scarcella, and many nieces and nephews.
Family was most important to Frank, as were his 7 grandchildren: Leonard (Denise) Massaro, Nicole (Ryan) Sunser, Frank (Olivia) Massaro, Danielle (Nicholas) DelVecchio, Frank (Michelle Hemmings-Jones) Scarcella, Cristina Massaro, and Rocco (Nikole Taylor) Scarcella; he was known to them as “Nonno”. He also loved his 5 great-grandchildren: Alexander, Mason, Mya, Oliver, and Madison.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Frank’s life at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Entombment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd, (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
