Frederick A. Carranti's Obituary
Frederick A. Carranti, 88, of Syracuse, passed away Sunday at Crouse Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Ferdinando and Urselina Carranti. Frederick graduated from North High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from General Electric after over 40 years of dedicated service. As a man of many interests, family and food were always at the forefront of his life, which included planning elaborate family dinners and vacations. He worked as a professional pianist for many years. As Fred loved being with people so much, he enjoyed working at the NY State Fair for over 50 years and looked forward to playing in tournaments at the casino. He was a dedicated friend to many.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Pio Carranti.
Frederick is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy “Dottie” (Zelazny) Carranti; two daughters, Teresa R. (Thomas) Downs of Massachusetts and Louise M. (Michael) O’Hara of Syracuse; his son, David J. (Donna) Carranti of Lysander; six grandchildren, Dustin, Taylor, Shane, Megan, Alex and Celina; his great-grandson, Sullivan; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 am on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Frederick’s life at 9:00 am at St. Daniel’s Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
