Frederick J. German's Obituary
Frederick J. German, 60, of North Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully at home on July 31, 2020.
Fred was born June 23, 1960, to John and Mary Ann (Koch) German. One of four children, he was raised in Jamaica, Queens, and in 1985 relocated to North Syracuse, NY, to raise his family. A plumber by trade, Fred worked many years in construction before starting his career at Syracuse University in the mid90s, where he worked until shortly before his death. Fred was a life member of the North Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department from July 5, 1994 to present and achieved the rank of Lieutenant in 1998. He also served as Explorer Lead Advisor to the Fire Departments Junior Firefighter Program, was a Certified NY State Basic Emergency Medical Technician, member of the North Syracuse Volunteer Fireman’s Association, and served on the Board of Directors.
Fred was known in the community and on campus for his outgoing spirit and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. Whether with his guitar around a campfire, or on the piano in SU’s Hendricks Chapel, Fred used his love of music to bring together friends, family, and strangers, creating many fond memories.
He is predeceased by his brother John, and nephew Adam. Fred is survived by his children, Alyssa and Erik (Jena), and their mother, Andrea; his partner Kathy; his sisters, Michelle (John) and Katy (Jim), as well as his nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Fred’s life at 6:00 pm in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR.
