Gaetano "Guy" Basile's Obituary
Gaetano L. "Guy" Basile, 87, of Syracuse passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday at University Hospital. He was born in Syracuse and was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. During WWII he served in the US Army 79th Combat Engineers Battalion, stationed in New Guinea and South Philippines. Guy received declarations and citations for the Asiatic-Pacific Liberation. During the depression Guy began his career as a Meat Cutter working for his brother Manny who owned and operated Basile's Meat Market. He retired in 1988 as Director of Meat Operations after loyally serving P&C and Big M for 26 1/2 years. Guy was a loving, gentle, compassionate, selfless and devoted husband and father. The most important thing in his life was the love of and for his family. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Edith Basile; three brothers and two sisters. Guy is survived by his son, Gary M. Basile of Syracuse; two daughters, Kathleen Basile (Manfred) Doell of Norfolk, VA and Susan A. Basile of DeWitt and his brother-in-law, Rev. Joseph Conti of Syracuse. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 8:00 am in the Thomas J. Pirro Funeral Home and 9:00 am in St. John the Baptist Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm.
