Gary Ray Dydyk's Obituary
Gary Ray Dydyk, 72, of Cicero, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 17, 2020 in Sarasota, FL. He was born in Syracuse, NY to the late John “Lefty” and Julia (Ewanicki) Dydyk. Gary graduated from Solvay High School and Fredonia State University and graduated with a Master of Music degree from Binghamton University.
He was a great jazz musician; he played saxophone, flute and clarinet in many bands around town, including the Syracuse Symphony, multiple theatre productions, and at the Syracuse Jazz Fest. Gary was an avid SU sports fan and spent many hours watching SU games with his grandsons. He volunteered time to organize and play music at Andrews Memorial Methodist Church. Gary taught school at Frankfurt Schuyler High School from 1969 until 1974 and retired from the Teamsters 317 P&C Warehouse. He was an avid golfer and two-time medalist in the state SUNY golf championship in 1967 & 1968 and won many golf tournaments in the Syracuse area.
Gary was a dedicated family man, loving husband, wonderful father and cherished grandfather who will be truly missed. Family always came first.
Gary is survived by his High School Sweetheart and loving wife of 50 years, Grace Marie (Stanton) Dydyk; his sons, Todd Hayden (Rachael) Dydyk and Derek Gary (Kindelyn Robinson) Dydyk; his beloved grandchildren, Hayden Robert Dydyk and Ethan Ray Dydyk; a brother, Jon Scott Dydyk, along with 2 nieces and 3 nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2020 from 2 to 4 pm followed by a memorial service in celebration of Gary’s life at 4 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Road (corner of Buckley Road), North Syracuse.
Donations may be made on behalf of Gary Ray Dydyk who was an avid animal lover, especially Beagles, to ones’ favorite rescue organization.
