Gene G. Kershner, 88, of Cicero, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 4, 2026. Born in Boyertown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Edwin and Hettie Kershner. Gene was a 1960 graduate of Kutztown State College where he met Read Obituary
Dear Family,
We met Gene and Bonnie in college at Kutztown and have been friends for over 65 years. Our families visited each other in NY and PA during the summers. During our time in Florida each February we spend a few days together. Four couples, Gene and Bonnie, Ray and Ruthann Ely, Ron and Gladys Horvath and Don and Marlene Steffy visited each other in the summers. Then for the last few years of our annual visits we always had our “Kershner Clambake” before traveling to the races at Saratoga Springs for a few days. We were winners just by being together creating such wonderful memories of our friendships. Gene was a successful businessman and he dearly cared about his family and friends. We will miss him. Our love, thoughts and prayers are with you.

Friends from college days stayed together since 1959, attending reunions at Kutztown, experiencing the Kentucky Derby, and for more than 15 years going to the races together at Saratoga Springs. They all met at Kutztown University. Four of the eight are gone, including Gene and Bonnie Kershner, Ray Ely, and Ron Horvath. Don and Marlene Steffy, Ruthann Ely, and Gladys Horvath are left with fond, loving memories.
To Gene's family,
I first encountered Gene in the early stages of my business journey; I was just beginning, and he was as well. I purchased a system from him at that time, and over the years, as my company expanded, he remained a constant presence, providing more phones and growing alongside us. We developed a strong friendship, and after joining Lakeshore, we became regular golf partners and enjoyed playing pinochle after our rounds. He was a tough competitor.
Gene had an infectious smile that brightened everyone's day and made everyone he met feel more at ease.
Gene was a solid businessman, a devoted family man, and most importantly, he understood and exemplified true friendship.
His was a life well lived. Gonna miss
To Gene’s family,
I worked at Hospice and was there when Gene started chairing the golf tournament and I was there when he finished. I consider him a lifelong friend. After we both left Hospice, I would run into him at breakfast occasionally with all the guys. They always made a seat for me at the table to visit and laugh with them. I will miss knowing that he is in the world.
To Gene’s family
I worked with Jean on all those golf tournaments for Hospice from the time he started till the time he finished. He was a wonderful man, and I considered him a lifelong friend. Occasionally, I would see him out to breakfast with the guys and they would always make a place for me at the table to sit and visit. We had a lot of laughs and I am so sorry to see that he has passed. I will always remember him fondly.
I met Gene when I called on his business to solicit banking services. He was a good friend of my boss. Very nice man and a gentleman to deal with. My condolences to his family and friends.
