Genevieve Dimento's Obituary
Genevieve Dimento, 96, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 21, 2023. She was born in Syracuse, daughter of the late Joseph and Antoinette (Ilacqua) Dimento. Genevieve retired from The Herald Journal/Post Standard after 38 dedicated years. Her whole life revolved around her Catholic faith. Genevieve was a longtime communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, where she participated in every church function. She sang in the choir, was a Eucharistic Minister, and brought communion to those who couldn’t attend mass. Genevieve was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and was awarded the Immaculata Award in 2012. She also enjoyed bowling, gardening, watching the NY Giants, and attending the opera. Genevieve loved socializing and going to restaurants with family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Frank Dimento in 1998 and Sarah Martin in 2013.
Genevieve is survived by two brothers, Anthony “Nino” Dimento (Marietta) and Bartolo “Bart” Dimento; her niece and caregiver, Janet (Patrick) Lawler, and the extended Lawler adopted family; her special great niece, Nicole (Ryan) Canulla; along with 3 nieces and 1 nephew, David Dimento.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 9:45 – 10:45 am at St. John the Baptist Church and Holy Trinity Church, 406 Court St., Syracuse, NY, followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Genevieve’s life at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum, DeWitt, NY.
