Genevieve V. (Fortino) Nicotra "Nipper"'s Obituary
Genevieve V. (Fortino) Nicotra, “Nipper”, 87, of Syracuse, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Syracuse to the late Ventura “Frank” and Philomena “Mary” (Siano) Fortino and graduated from North High School in 1950. Genevieve was a devout catholic and was a communicant of St. Daniel’s Church for many years. Nipper loved to travel, particularly to Aruba, and enjoyed her many trips to the casino and playing the lottery. She adored her family, especially her grandchildren, and spent as much time with them as she could; everyone will miss her famous chocolate chip cookies.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by seven of her siblings.
Genevieve is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Vincent F. Nicotra, Sr.; three children, Jennifer (William) Ryan, Vincent F. Nicotra, Jr., and Mark A. (Jennifer) Nicotra; seven grandchildren, Nicholas (Kayleigh) Nicotra, Meghan Ryan, Vincent F. Nicotra, Bill Ryan, Lauren Nicotra, Gia Hillman, and Dario Nicotra; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Marlene Jerome; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral mass in celebration of Genevieve’s life will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at 9:00 am in St. Daniel’s Church. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Genevieve’s name may be made to St. Daniel’s Church, 3004 Court St., Syracuse, NY 13208.
