George Aravantinos' Obituary
George Aravantinos, 90, of Liverpool, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving nieces, at Loretto Health and Rehabilitation Center. George was born on the Ionian Island of Kefalonia, Greece, the son of the late Aggelos and Kostantina Aravantinos. George was a graduate of trade schools in both Kefalonia and Syracuse. He was very proud of his mechanical skills and could fix just about anything. He was an extremely proficient machinist. George immigrated to the United States in 1954 where he worked in the family business, California Fruit Market, in Massena, NY. He moved to the Syracuse area in the late 1950s and worked at New Process Gear. He was the proud owner of G&J Home Remodeling, and the European Gallery & Frame Shop on Main Street in North Syracuse. He was also the proud owner of many properties in and around the Syracuse area. George was an avid bowler and a member of many bowling leagues at Bowling Green Bowling Alley in North Syracuse.
He is predeceased by his loving wife of 68 years, Grace Aravantinos; his parents; his brothers, Jerry and Jimmy Aravantinos; his sisters, Kate Antonelou, Eleni Simatos, and Angeliki Rigatou.
George is survived by his siblings, Nikos (Vasiliki) Aravantinos and Maria Dranina; his sister-in-law, Helen Aravantinos; his nephew, Andrea (Rhia) Aravantinos of Greece. He is also survived by his three loving nieces, Dena (Matthias Schneider) Aravantinos, Dena (Galo) Almeida, and Angela (Scott) Murphy, along with numerous nieces and nephews in Greece.
The family would like to thank the nurses and aides at Peregrine Assisted Living Facility and Loretto Health and Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral service in celebration of George’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 28, 2025, at St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church with interment to follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
