George S. Wede's Obituary
George S. Wede, 91, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Clay, NY, son of the late George and Marie C. (Julian) Wede. George was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran serving under the Amphibious Forces. He worked many dedicated years for the City of Syracuse DPW, retiring as Superintendent of Street Repairs. George was also a Hunter Safety Instructor in NYS (longest tenured) and was inducted into the NYS Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame in 1993. He represented and promoted Camillus Sportsmen’s Club and was a delegate and past president of the Onondaga County Federation of Sportsmen’s Club. George was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and his yearly trips to Newfoundland to go Moose Hunting.
He was predeceased by his brother, Carmen Wede and former spouse, Theresa Wede.
George is survived by his two sons, David A. (Linda) Wede and George J. (Maria) Wede; his daughter, JoAnn (Louis) Ross; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Eleanor, Helen and Anna, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of George’s life at 10:00 am in St. Margaret’s Church, Mattydale. Burial with Military Honors will be in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
