Gerasimos "Jerry" Aravantinos' Obituary
Gerasimos “Jerry” Aravantinos, 83, of Liverpool, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Upstate University Hospital. Jerry was born on the Ionian Island of Kefalonia, Greece, the son of the late Aggelos and Konstantina Aravantinos. While living in Greece he worked on the family land and built the community through his carpentry skills. Jerry immigrated to the United States in 1956. Here in the U.S. he worked for many years at various Loblaw’s locations. In 1969 he started his own construction business, Jerry’s Home Remodeling, Inc. In 2004 he was forced to sell the business and retire due to health issues. Jerry bravely fought and won eight battles with cancer. Unfortunately, he was not able to overcome his final battle with pulmonary disease.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Eleni Simatos and Angeliki Rigatou, both of Greece.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Helen (Brown); his daughter, Dena of Boston; three brothers, George (Grace) of Liverpool, Nikos (Vasiliki) of Greece, and Dimitri (Katrina) of Liverpool; two sisters, Kate Antonelou and Maria Draina, both of Greece, along with many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral service in celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2:00 – 5:00 pm with a Trisagion service at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
