Giacomo A. "Jack" Verone's Obituary
Giacomo A. “Jack” Verone, 84, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Upstate University Hospital. Born in Carbondale, PA to the late Gregorio and Diaga (Adamo) Verone, Jack was employed as a clerk for the United States Postal Service, retiring after more than 40 dedicated years. Jack enjoyed trips to the casino, summer vacations to Cape Cod, and traveling the world with his loving wife Shirley, especially their trip to the Holy Land. He was a devout catholic and communicant of St. Peter’s church and then St. James Church (now Our Lady of Hope). Jack was also an officer of the Usher’s guild and the Holy Name Society. Most of all, Jack loved to spend time with his family.
Along with his parents, Jack was predeceased by his siblings, Gregory, Michael, Anthony, Joe, and Josie.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Shirley (Kuppei) Verone; children, Paul Verone, and Naomi Lester; a granddaughter, Nicole Verone; 4 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, John Bialy, William (Kelly) Bialy, and Shirley Drouin; step-grandchildren, Kristine, Kristopher, Brendan, and Justin; brother, John (Joanne) Verone; sister-in-law, Nancy Verone; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at 9:30 AM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME followed by a funeral Mass in celebration of Jack’s life at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, 4845 S. Salina St., Syracuse. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call on Monday, February 13, 2023, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) Syracuse, NY 13212.
Shirley would like to thank the nursing staff on 4 North at Upstate University Hospital – Community Campus, especially Tracey, for their love and care during Jack’s final days.
