Gioacchino "Jack" Marino's Obituary
Gioacchino "Jack" Marino, 78, of North Syracuse, passed away Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Bisaquino Palermo, Sicily, the son of the late Giuseppe and Margherita (Lucia) Marino. Gioacchino served in the Italian Army in the 1950's and immigrated to Syracuse from Bisaquino in 1962 and got a job with Syracuse Tank. He then made his career as a welder with Jaquith Industries from which he retired, after over 30 years of service. Gioacchino was an avid bowler and won a local bowling tournament in the 1970's. He was also an avid gardener who loved his flowers, fruit trees and especially caring for his fig trees. Gioacchino spent many years canning tomatoes and making homemade wine for family and friends. His favorite movie was "The Godfather". But most importantly, his passion was taking care of his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Andrea Marino. Gioacchino is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Maria (Nicolosi) Marino; his two beloved daughters, Margherita "Margina" (Thomas) Collins of Cicero and Andinella (Brian) Warden of Central Square; three cherished grandchildren, Brandon Collins, Austin Collins and Braxton Warden; two brothers, Francesco (Rosalia) Marino and Salvatore (Assunta) Marino, both of Liverpool; two sisters, Maria (Joseph) Scollo of Syracuse and Theresa (Antonio) Scafidi of Mexico, NY; sister-in-law, Costanza Marascio; lifelong best friend, Santo Rosato of CT; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many wonderful friends and also his beloved dog, "Puchino", who was always by his side.
Gioacchino's family would like to express a special thank you to the nursing staff of 1-5 at St. Joseph's Hospital for their loving care.
Family and friends are invited to attend a calling hour on Saturday from 8:45 to 9:45 am at St. Margaret's Church in Mattydale followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Gioacchino's life at 10:00 am. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the SPCA of CNY.
