Giovanna (Santaguida) Barbuto's Obituary
Giovanna (Santaguida) Barbuto, 81, of Liverpool, passed away at home on September 24, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Italy, daughter of the late Teodoro and Stella Santaguida. Giovanna immigrated to the United States with her family in 1970. She was employed by Onondaga County for over 25 years. Giovanna loved to cook and bake. She also loved to travel to various casinos and vacationing in Florida. She looked forward to family gatherings and cherished time spent with family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Giovanna was predeceased by her husband, Antonio in October 2013; and brothers-in-law, Vito Vespari, Giovanni Failla and Dominick Barbuto.
Giovanna is survived by five children, Teresina (Mark) DeSalvo of Cicero, Gino Barbuto of Fayetteville, Ted Barbuto of Liverpool, Stella (John) Penizotto of Liverpool and Grace Goncalves of Florida; ten grandchildren, Anthony (Triana), Jason, Stephen (Bethany), Marisa, Jeremy, Cody, Alyssa (Eli), Peter, Alexis and Madison; former daughter-in-law, Karen Barbuto of Fayetteville; one sister, Concetta Vespari of Liverpool; four brothers, Giuseppe Santaguida of North Syracuse, Francesco Santaguida, Cosmino (Concetta) Santaguida and Umberto (Stefania) Santaguida, all of Italy; two sisters-in-law, Raffaella Failla of Canastota and Rosa Santaguida of Italy; three brothers-in- law, Teodoro (Carmela) Barbuto of Syracuse, Frank (Cathy) Barbuto of Liverpool and John (Heidi) Barbuto of Syracuse and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank all the friends and family that have given us so much love and support during this past year.
A funeral Mass in celebration of Giovanna’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, September 29, 2023 in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St., Syracuse, followed by entombment in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Road (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
