Giuseppe Maggi's Obituary
Giuseppe Maggi, 87, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Sunnyside Care Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Bari, Italy to the late Simone and Pasqua (Fiorentino) Maggi and settled in Syracuse in 1972. Giuseppe retired from Crouse-Hinds after many years working as a machine operator. He was close with his Catholic faith and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Giuseppe also loved gardening and his pride was tending to his huge Fig tree for many years but was most happy when he was spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Anna, Francescina and Santina.
Giuseppe is survived by his wife of 61 years, Apollonia (Manzari) Maggi; children, Tony (Carmela) Maggi, Dominic Maggi; Michael Maggi; Pasqua (David) Sackett, and Annamaria (Jeffrey) McManus; grandchildren, Gina (Derek), Bianca, Anthony, Gabriella, Vincent and Luke; brother, Michael; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Bishop Nursing and Rehabilitation that took care of Giuseppe especially, Robert Leiter and the staff at Sunnyside Care Center.
Calling hours will take place from 1 – 3 pm on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse. A funeral mass in celebration of Giuseppe’s life will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St. Syracuse. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Giuseppe’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association CNY Chapter PO Box 12226 Syracuse NY 13218.
