Giuseppe Zappala's Obituary
Giuseppe Zappala, 82, of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 7, 2021. He was born in Fiumefreddo Sicily, son of the late Mario and Lucia (Fresta) Zappala. Before emigrating to the U.S., he joined the Italian Army (Reggimento di Cavalleria). Giuseppe was employed as a sheet metal worker with Local 58 for over 40 years, retiring in 2001. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and close friends.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings, Alfredo Zappala and Mariella Martire; his son-in-law, Joseph O’Donnell; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and cousins.
Giuseppe is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Adriana (Palucci) Zappala; four children, Alessandro “Alex” Zappala, Rosanna O’Donnell, Sergio (Linda) Zappala and Lucia (Michael) Shepherd; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Patrick, Marco, Sandra, Mia, Justin, Christopher, Emiliana and Camilla; several nieces, nephews, many special cousins, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Giuseppe’s life at 10:00 am in St. Margaret’s Church, Mattydale. He will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, August 13, 2021 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church Renovation Fund or Hospice of CNY.
