Giuseppina "Josephine" Lomonaco's Obituary
Giuseppina "Josephine" (Grasso) Lomonaco, 80, of Syracuse, passed away Saturday in St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by her loving family and special friends. She was born in Linguaglossa, Sicily and moved to Syracuse in 1956. She had been employed by the Learbury Clothing Company as a seamstress and was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America. Josie loved to spend time with her family, especially cooking for her family and friends. She loved the holidays, her group of seniors and helping everyone around her. She also enjoyed the opera and old movies. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the doctors, nurses and all the staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, 1-8 Palliative Care Unit for their unconditional care and compassion.
She was predeceased by her husband, Filippo Lomonaco in 1985, her son, Frank and daughter, Mary (Lomonaco) Christiansen. Surviving are three children: Zena (Christopher) Motyl of Albany, NY, Joanne(Lomonaco) Saile of Syracuse and Phillip Lomonaco of Syracuse; three grandchildren, Andrew Christiansen, Nicholas Motyl and Jasmine Lomonaco; a brother, Egidio (Tina) Grasso of Italy; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:00 am Wednesday in the Thomas J. Pirro Jr. Funeral Home and 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter's Church, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM.
