Gladys U. (Okimoto) Mantione's Obituary
Gladys U. (Okimoto) Mantione, of Central Square, passed away peacefully on Monday, three months shy of her 100th birthday, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Hawaii and after moving to Syracuse, she became an inspector for General Electric, a position she held for many years prior to her retirement in 1962. Gladys was known for her Sunday dinners and her famous meatballs; a tradition that allowed her more time with her beloved grandsons.
Gladys is predeceased by her parents and her husband, Jack M. Mantione, Sr. in 1992.
She is survived by her son, Jack M. (Maureen) Mantione, Jr.; three grandsons, Jack M. III (Nathalie), Matthew (Pamela), and Steven (Katelyn) Mantione; her great-grandchildren; her sister, Alice Tagoshi, of Hawaii; her sister-in-law, Carmella Mantione; along with several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service in celebration of Gladys’ life will take place at 9:30 am on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Road (corner of Buckley Road) North Syracuse. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum, DeWitt. Visitation will be held from 5 -7 pm on Friday, November 26, 2021 at the funeral home.
