Glenn R. "Gunka" Thompson, Sr.'s Obituary
Glenn R. “Gunka” Thompson, Sr., 70, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the VA Medical Center on September 5, 2019. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Eva Lena (Anderson) and Grant Lewis Thompson, Sr. Gunka was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He worked 47 dedicated years as a meat cutter, most recently with Tops Friendly Markets. Gunka enjoyed classic cars, especially his 1972 El Camino.
Glenn was predeceased by his sister, Janet L. Freim, and a brother, William J. Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 7 years, Mary Lou (Costa) Thompson; his son, Glenn R. Thompson, Jr. (Robyn); grandson, Kyle; granddaughter, Skylar; his brother, Grant L. (Cheryl) Thompson, Jr.; three sisters, Joy F. Thompson, Barbara L. (William) Browning and Michele L. Evans, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm, immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Gunka’s life at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. Private entombment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
