Gordon L. Storrings' Obituary
Gordon L. Storrings, of Skaneateles, formerly of Westvale, NY, passed away peacefully at home on June 10, 2019. He was born in Cato, NY, to Allen and Estelle Storrings, and was raised as a depression kid that saved everything. Gordon was a graduate of Jamesville-DeWitt High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force before and during the Korean War in Air Sea rescue as crew chief on B-17’s and was stationed in Aleutian Islands, Adak and Shemya, Alaska. Gordon retired after 35 dedicated years from Allied Chemical in Jamesville as a driller, heavy equipment operator and licensed blaster. He worked for Westhill School District in his earlier years as a bus driver; he was a night custodian at Cherry Road School and head custodian at Walberta Park School for 36 years. Gordon was a life member of Holy Family Church in Fairmount. He was a life member of KWVA Chapter 105, SGT at ARMS, life member and commander of VFW Post 8664 numerous times, life member of Tip Hill Post #1361 American Legion and Mad River Club in Lacona, NY. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, Gordon is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Fran (Chiarenza) Storrings in 2014; his daughter, Debra Ann Storrings; brothers, Burton of Baldwinsville, Vernal of Solvay and David of CA; in-laws, Josephine and Antonio Chiarenza; sister-in-law, Susan Smith of Westvale.
Gordon is survived by his children, Gordon L. (Ruth) Storrings, Jr. of Florida, Donna (Jim) Parr of Skaneateles and Michael A. (Jeffrey Keefer) of NYC; four grandsons, Harley (Agnes) Storrings, Jason (Gina) Storrings, Jacob and Tyler Parr; four great-grandchildren, Christian, Catherine, Sophia and Isabel; brothers, Allen (Debra) of Onondaga Hill, William of Utah, John (Elise) of Phoenix, NY; sisters, Bernadine Stitt of Minoa, Edith Stewart of Minoa; a special nephew, Sgt. Jamison Stitt of Minoa; niece, Tracey (Steve) Fisher, Nathan and Mia Fisher, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Gordon’s life at 10:00 am in Holy Family Church, Fairmount. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners, NY. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
