Grace Josephine (Pizzi) Lanza's Obituary
Grace Josephine (Pizzi) Lanza, 94, of East Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 20, 1920 in Syracuse, to John and Concetta Pizzi. Grace attended North High School and later worked at Witherill’s, Chappell’s and Harrison Bakery. She was a communicant of St. Matthew’s Church and a member of the Golden Agers. She was also an avid bowler and enjoyed golfing at Arrowhead Golf Course. Grace loved cooking, baking and shopping, but she especially loved her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Sam Lanza in 2014; her sister, Isabella Palermo and her brothers, Murray, Carmen, John and Richard Pizzi.
Grace is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Geoffrey) Ciereck of Lakeland; her son, Sam (Marrianne) Lanza of Cicero; her grandchildren, Geoffrey Ciereck, Jared (Trisha) Ciereck, Courtney (Daniel) Blankenhorn and Lauren Ciereck; great-granddaughter, Amelia Blankenhorn; step-grandchildren, Amanda Humberstone and Doug Armstrong; sisters-in-law, Mary Pizzi, Margo Pizzi and Ernestine Lanza; brother-in-law, Anthony Lanza, along with several nieces and nephews.
Grace’s family would like to extend a special thank you to her niece, Donna (Pizzi) Brooks for all of her loving care and support.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Grace’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at St. Matthew’s Church, East Syracuse. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
