Gus "Kostas" Ioannidis' Obituary
Gus “Kostas” Ioannidis, 78, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 10, 2020. He was born in Florina, Greece, son of the late Stavros and Melpomeni (Mazaris) Ioannidis. Gus proudly served in the Greek Army. He worked over 20 years with Millbrook Bakery. Gus was the owner and operator of the Palace Restaurant in Verona Beach, NY. He also enjoyed helping his sons at the family business, Gardenview Diner in Liverpool. Gus was an avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching soccer. Gus loved spending time with family and friends, especially his cherished grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Evangelos Ioannidis. Gus is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Anastasia (Pappas) Ioannidis; two sons, Nik (Dina) Ioannidis and John (Anna) Ioannidis; seven beloved grandchildren, Alexandra, Eleni, John Paul, Stavros, Dimitri, Angelos and Stefano; two sisters, Zoe (Drage) Algefski and Elefteria Shiomos; a brother, Alexandros Ioannidis, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 from 9:30 am – 11:00 am at St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church, 325 Waring Rd., Syracuse, NY, immediately followed by a Funeral Service in celebration of Gus’ life at 11:00 am. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church, 325 Waring Rd., Syracuse, NY 13224.
