Harold J. Seib's Obituary
Harold J. Seib, age 97, of Syracuse, beloved husband, father, papa, uncle and friend, passed away December 11, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was born in Syracuse to the late Harold and Anna Seib. Harold attended Assumption and Vocations High Schools and earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice from O.C.C. Harold served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and spent 2 ½ years in the South Pacific. He joined the Syracuse Police Department in 1949 and was in command of the Investigations Division of the Police Dept. when he retired in 1970 with the rank of Captain. He was later Security Director of Acme Markets and completed his working years as Security Director of Crouse Hospital where he worked for another 17 years. Harold was a lifetime member of the CNY Board of Basketball Officials where he served as both Vice President and President of section III. In 1963, he was presented an official award by the Blindmen and Criers and in 1987, the Section III service award. Harold was a long-time member of the Italian American Athletic Club (the only German), Pastime Athletic Club, Lincoln Republican Club, Board of Directors of the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame, and Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Holy Name Society. Harold loved golf, SU sports and the Buffalo Bills, but above all, loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is predeceased by his siblings, Shirley, David, Donald, and Joan Roeser.
Surviving is the love of his life of 72 years, Concetta "Jenny" Seib; daughters, Shirley (Stephen) Evans and Sue (Kevin) Willey; grandchildren, Renee Hayes, Jessica Delles, Erik Evans and Mike Evans; great-children, Nadia, Madison, Brynn, and Bryson, and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Harold’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at St. Daniel’s Church, 3004 Court St., Syracuse, NY. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
