Hazel "Helen" (Ashline) Root's Obituary
Hazel “Helen” (Ashline) Root, 87, of Liverpool, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Francis House surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Champlain, NY, daughter of the late Grover and Elsie Ashline. Helen was Salutatorian of the class of 1950 at Champlain High School. She worked several dedicated years at Birchwood Health Care Center. Helen was a longtime communicant of St. Margaret’s Church, serving as Eucharistic Minister and taught Religious Education for many years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her beloved grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her brother, Gerald Ashline and two sisters, Bette Ashline and Veronica Gonya.
Helen is survived her husband of 65 years, Clifford Root; four sons, David C. (Donna) Root, Daniel L. (Denise) Root, William E. (Linda) Root and Jeffrey S. Root; a daughter, Lisa K. (Daniel) Cecile; 11 grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jessica, Elizabeth, Daniel, Brady, Aaron, Alexander, Kyle, Steven, Lauren and Vanessa; four great-grandsons, Jaxx, Ciro, Drake and Roman; four sisters, Dorothy, Adeline, Laura and Gloria, along with several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Helen’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, November 25, 2019 at St. Margaret’s Church, Mattydale. Burial will follow in North Syracuse Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2:00 – 4:00 pm on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
