Helen (Fenu) Alonso , 91, passed away peacefully at Francis House on June 14, 2013. She was born in Syracuse on August 7, 1921. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother to all that knew her. Helen was a devout Catholic who loved her church, Our Lady of Pompei/St Peter and our savior Jesus Christ. Up until her recent illness she was always at Mass on Sunday. Over the years she became known to all whose lives she touched as "Aunt Helen" . She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed making her "special sauce" for all on holidays . She lit up a room with her wonderful smile, and brought joy to everyone she touched. Helen was employed for many years by New York Telephone where she made many life-long friends.
Helen is predeceased by her husband Manuel Alonso, daughter Michele Ann Alonso, parents Joseph and Pauline Fenu, sister and brother-in-law Victoria and Carmen Nicoletti, and brother and sister-in-law John and Mary Fenu. She is survived by her nephews and niece, Joseph A. Nicoletti , John Fenu, Jean Alonso-Smith, Richard Alonso, Stephen Alonso and their families. In addition she leaves behind several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank all that supported and cared for Helen especially the staff of St Joseph's Hospital and Francis House as well as her wonderful caregiver Shirley.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday at NOON in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, with a calling hour prior 11am - noon at the church. A private burial will take place in Assumption Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Our Lady of Pompei/St Peter Church.
