Helen "Phyllis" Raimondi's Obituary
Helen “Phyllis” (Burns) Raimondi,91, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 22 in Syracuse, NY in the loving care of her family. Phyllis was born in Newton, MA and graduated from Brookline High in 1938 and LaSalle College in 1940. In 1943 she graduated from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. During WWII she joined the Army Corps of Nurses and was sent oversees to work in military hospitals in England, France, and Germany working in many of the most forward areas. Following the war, Phyllis co-founded the Ba-bee Dietary Service, a baby formula company, in 1947 with a fellow army nurse, Betty Clark.
Phyllis met the love of her life, Anthony “Tony” Raimondi on December 18, 1948. They were married on September 24, 1950. Tony and Phyllis moved to Washington, D.C. when Tony was called to serve at Walter Reed during the Korean War. They moved to Schenectady, NY in 1952 where they eventually started the family business, Raimondi Dental Laboratory, and raised their family. Phyllis and Tony were happily married for 55 years; some of their most cherished moments were spent at a camp Tony built in Alexandria, NH where they vacationed with their family for almost 40 years.
Phyllis was a loving and significant influence in the lives of her family who dearly cherished her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Tony. Phyllis is survived by her three children, Anthony “Jay” (Carol) Raimondi of Pleasanton, CA; daughter, Jill Biggane of Vista, CA and daughter, Julie (Artie) Brillanti of Syracuse, NY; nine grandchildren, Josh (Christi) Raimondi and Jennifer (Kevin) Raimondi Dolder, Andy (Tabatha), Mike, Peter, Matt and Jonathan Biggane, Laura and Emily Brillanti; three great grandchildren, Brandon Anthony, Lauren Phyllis Biggane and Catalina Dolder ; sister, Janet Russell and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2011 at DeMarco Stone Funeral Home in Schenectady, NY. There will be a memorial mass at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at St. Gabriel’s Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Rotterdam.
