Horace J. "Joe" Dalfo's Obituary
Horace J. “Joe” Dalfo passed away peacefully at Upstate Medical Center on Saturday September 16, 2017 after a short illness. Joe was born October 28, 1929 in Eastwood and graduated from Eastwood High School in 1948 where he lettered in football and baseball. He served in the US Navy aboard two ships during the Korean War. He retired from New York Telephone (NYNEX, Verizon) after more than 30 years.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Joe enjoyed sports especially the Chicago Bears, NASCAR and New York Yankees. He was very active in Eastwood Bears Football and Salem Hyde Little League Baseball.
Joe enjoyed painting, cooking, deer hunting and his daily trips to the gym. He also loved following his children and grandchildren’s sports activities. He always had a joke, or funny quip to greet you with.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Josephine (Galante) Dalfo; his wife of 66 years Elaine, his daughter Dona E. Cerio, his sister Stella Bellomo, and several brothers in law.
He is survived by his sons, Joe (Trish) and Brian (Tina) both of Syracuse. Son-in-law Vincent Cerio, grandchildren Jeff (Maryann Szczesny) Cerio, Melissa (Matt Luke) Cerio, Alicia (Tim) Talarico, Cristi Dalfo, Joey Dalfo, Brian Dalfo, Vinny Dalfo, great grandchildren Daniella & Anthony Talarico. He is also survived by his sisters, Grace Murrath, Carrie Detor, and Helen (Ed) Presbyla as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Joe’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday , September 23 at Our Lady of Pompei / St. Peter Church, followed by Entombment in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
