Ilias D. Fekos' Obituary
Ilias D. Fekos passed away March 14th, 2024, at 94 years old.
Ilias is survived by his loving wife of 73 years Paraskevi Fekos (Meskos), his son Dimitrios Fekos, daughters Olga Koumanidis, Areti Kourtis, and all their families. He is also survived by his many grandchildren and great grandchildren, his brother Kosta, sisters Maria and Georgia and their families. He is predeceased by his mother Zoi Fekos (Retzos), father Dimitrios Fekos, and sister Fani Pateras.
Ilias was born in Proti Florina Greece, emigrated to Melbourne, Australia in 1959 and was one of the founders of Agios Nikolaos in Australia. He returned to Proti to take his family back to Australia where they lived for 6 years. He then emigrated with his family to Syracuse, NY where he resided.
Despite the hardships he had to face in his life, Ilias was a hard-working provider for his family and a devoted “Papou” to all his grandchildren and great children.
Family, community, history, and tradition were the most important things to him and are what kept him alive for many years.
May his memory be everlasting and eternal.
A funeral service in celebration of Ilias’ life will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church 325 Waring Rd. Syracuse. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday, March 18, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY 13212.
