Jacob V. Van Marter, Jr.'s Obituary
Jacob V. Van Marter, Jr., 83, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Crouse Hospital. He was born in Syracuse to the late Jacob and Gladys (Pease) Van Marter, Sr. and served in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of Radioman Seaman on the USS Camp during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Jacob worked as a construction foreman for John E. Fisher Construction Companies and loved to watch football and NASCAR racing.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph Van Marter, Thomas Van Marter, Joseph Jones, Marilyn Leubner, and Noreen Leubner.
Jacob is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Sharon A. (Christino) Van Marter; his children, Kathleen (Kieran) Ordway and Jacob V. Van Marter III; his grandchildren, David, Kevin, Nicole, and Meagan; six great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; his siblings, James (Sue) Van Marter and Judy Stockus; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will take place from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse. Private burial with Military Honors will be held in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
