James "Jim" Donath's Obituary
“Fair winds and following seas, we have the watch, shipmate!”
With deep sorrow and abiding love, we announce the passing of James “Jim” Donath, who went to sleep in Jesus on Friday, April 3, 2026, after a long and courageous journey with Parkinson’s disease.
Jim was known for his generosity, kindness, and giving spirit. He had a special way of making people laugh, and his warmth and humor brought joy to those around him. He will be remembered for the love he gave so freely, the smiles he brought to others, and the steady goodness that defined his life.
Jim retired from Caterpillar, where he worked as a Diesel Mechanic. He took great pride in his work and was respected for his skill, dedication, and strong work ethic.
Outside of work, Jim had a deep love for dirt racing and was heavily involved in the racing world for many years. It was one of the passions that brought him great happiness and reflected his spirited nature and love of life.
Jim shared 29 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Diane Donath, and together they built a life of love, faith, laughter, and devotion. Their bond remained strong through every season of life, including the difficult years of his illness.
Though Parkinson’s changed many things, it never changed the love that surrounded Jim or the place he held in the hearts of those who knew him. He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Diane Donath; his son, Steven (Amanda) Donath of Waterford, Pennsylvania; his daughter, Jennifer (William) O’Sullivan of North East, Pennsylvania; his stepsons, Carlos Rodela of Seattle, Washington and Josito Rodela of Baldwinsville, New York; his sisters, Shirley (Bill) Ruszczyk and Sharlene Turner; his brothers, John Donath, Jr. and David (Nancy) Donath; and his six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father: John Donath, mother: Jane Donath (Keller), brothers: Paul Donath and Fred Donath, and his sister, Martha Costello.
Jim also leaves behind his beloved cat, Arrow, and Buddy, who was always by his side. He will also be remembered with love by extended family, dear friends, and all who carry his memory in their hearts.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, he will be cremated and no formal funeral or memorial service will be held.
While our hearts are broken, we take comfort in faith, in love, and in the blessed hope of reunion in Christ.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
