James N. "Jim" Dunn's Obituary
James N. "Jim" Dunn, 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Alden, NY, August 16, 1935, he was the son of the late Thomas and Matilda Dunn. Jim was a graduate of Canisius High School and Canisius College in Buffalo, and received his Masters of Science Degree from Syracuse University. Jim spent his professional career at General Electric in the Radar and Sonar Divisions. In retirement he remained active, working part-time at Beacon Comprehensive Services Corp. He also served as a member of the Town of Salina Planning Board and was a Francis House volunteer. Jim was a man of many talents and interests, piqued by his love of learning. He frequently expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be involved in the lives of his family members, which led him to many new experiences and places. Jim proudly basked in the accomplishments of his children, and especially enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in all their academic, athletic, and social endeavors. Jim was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Mattydale where he served in many capacities including Eucharistic Minister, manager of the first Bingo team, and volunteer at school and parish fundraisers.
He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Agnes Geerhart and Mary Ann Dunn. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Kay (Robertson) Dunn; his sons, Mark L. Dunn and Thomas J. (Stephanie) Dunn; daughters, Maureen (Joseph) McGlynn, Sr. Suzanne, OSF, Patricia (Rodney) Mayette, and Moira (John) Grimes; his grandchildren, Patrick, Maire-Kate and James McGlynn; Jack and Erika Mayette, Brianna Grimes, and Liam and Carson Dunn. He is also survived by his sister, Alice Smith; brother, John (Kay) Dunn, and brother-in-law, James Robertson along with many nieces and nephews.
Jim's family would like to express their gratitude to all the health care providers on floors 9F and 8F at Upstate Medical Center for their warm, loving and dedicated care during his illness.
A funeral mass in celebration of Jim's life will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am in St. Margaret's Church, Mattydale. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Margaret's "Angel Fund" supporting Catholic education scholarships at 203 Roxboro Road, Mattydale, NY 13211.
