James F. "Moose" Hoffsher's Obituary
James F. “Moose” Hoffsher, 88, of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Thursday at home with his wife by his side after a brief illness. He was born on February 27, 1927 and grew up on the north side of Syracuse. James served with the US Army during World War II. He graduated from Assumption Academy and was a parishioner of Assumption Church. James was employed by New York Telephone, retiring with Verizon after 35 years of service in 1985. He was a kind and loving man with a strong faith who enjoyed being with his family.
He was predeceased by his mother, Mary (Argy) Hoffsher in 1979 and his father, Frederick Hoffsher in 1958; brother, Donald W. Hoffsher, Sr. in 1985; sister, MaryAnn LaFleur in 2005; beloved niece, Susan Salerno in 1990 who he loved as a daughter.
James is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Margaret (Napolitano) Hoffsher; brothers-in law, Leo (Connie) Napolitano of North Syracuse and Anthony (Peggy) Napolitano of Westvale; sisters-in law, Esther Bowles of North Syracuse, Thelma Napolitano of North Syracuse and Justina Hoffsher of Camillus; several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of James’ life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 7, 2015 at Assumption Church. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
