James W. Milligan's Obituary
James W. Milligan, 89, of Liverpool, passed away May 7, 2018. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Harold and Madalyn Milligan. James graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy in 1947. He joined the U.S. Army in 1950, serving in Rifle Company I, 180th Regiment 45th Division until 1952. Jim was a decorated Korean War Veteran; earning a Bronze Star for his dedicated service. Upon returning from Korea, he re-enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After being honorably discharged from the military, he went on to work for Carl Wood Roofing Co. Jim became a member of Roofers Local 195 in 1957, and over the next 30 years, served as vice-president, president, and business manager, retiring in 2006. He was an avid sports fan, Irishman, and union rep. Most of all, Jim was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marion “Nye” (Osborne) Milligan; his daughter, Janet Tennant; sisters, Mary Collins and Carol Dann, and brother, Joseph Welch.
Jim is survived by his children, Kevin (Beverly) Milligan, Susan (Thomas) Wood and Kim Milligan; grandchildren, Tracy Tennant, Scott Tennant, Kristen Pryce, Shannon (Jeff) Favalo, Kelly Singer, Matt Singer, Meghaan Milligan and Nicholas Milligan; 11 great grandchildren; his brother, John (Mary) Milligan; his cousin Larry; many nieces and nephews; special people, Bridget and Ben Badore, Christina (Justin) Wallace and family; and of course, all his friends at Guilfoil’s.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Chittenango. Family and friends may call from 4 - 7 pm on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association or the American Cancer Society, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
