James R. Murphy's Obituary
James R. Murphy, 59, of Syracuse, passed away on January 23, 2017 which would have been his mother’s 95th birthday. He was predeceased by his parents, William J. and Arlene (Burns) Murphy.
Jim had recently retired from the Syracuse Fire Department after 31 years. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed NASCAR racing, Corvettes, and was a devoted fan of SU basketball and football. Jim was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sally L. (Bersani) Murphy; his two beautiful daughters, Christina A. and Sarah M. Murphy of Syracuse, and his handsome grandson, Donte James – the apples of his eye; his brother, William J. Murphy of The Villages, FL; his sisters, Ann M. of Syracuse and Theresa Thomsen of New Port Beach, CA; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; several nieces, nephews, and numerous life-long friends.
Jim will truly be missed by all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 10:00 AM in Most Holy Rosary Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 3 – 7 PM at Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave., Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that contributions be made to Hospice of CNY or Most Holy Rosary Church, in memory of Jim Murphy.
