James A. Murty 87, our dearly loved, wonderful Father, Stepfather, Grandfather, Uncle, Brother and Great Friend went to Heaven from Loretto in his sleep on 12/12/2020 to be with his beloved wives Joan and Ann and his loving parents Anthony and Julia and his son Tommy and brother in law Vern whom he was predeceased by. He is survived by his mourning adoring children Kathy (Frank), James (Dawn), Maureen Smith, William (Kellie), Joanie Kumiega, Stepfather to John and David Clarke; Grandfather to Aubrey, Erin, Sean, Mike, Siobhan, Kelsie, Bailie, Brennan, Tyler, Shealyn, Ruby, Dusty and Amber; Great-Grandfather to Garrett, Gianna, Bella, Kennedy, and Dahlia; Brother to Gerry (Kathy), Frank (Joyce), Tony (Christy), and Sheila. Uncle and Brother-in-Law, and Cousin to the large Murty and Nesci families in Buffalo and Syracuse and Florida areas and Great Friend to so many people like his wonderful friends the Linde’s and Carm and John Fitzgerald who visited him at his Greenpoint home that his daughters Maureen and Kathy made so beautiful for him to enjoy his last years in.
Jim grew up in Buffalo with his loving family and after St. Joseph’s high school worked for the city of Buffalo and then served in the Army honorably during the time of the Korean War and then met his wonderful first wife Joan and started at Niagara Mohawk and they started their great family in East Amherst and all went to St. Mary’s there and the family and Jim were very devout Catholics as Jim was all his life and Jim was a lector at St. Mary’s and he and Joan made sure the kids were available at all times for the parish. Jim worked his way up at Niagara Mohawk to great success. At the Swormville Fire Dept. he was a Firefighter, Past Chief and Past President and on the Board of Directors and was the GOP Chairman and on the Planning Board of his area. Years after wonderful Joan passed Jim had to travel as he became the Western Division Safety Director for Niagara Mohawk.
He met our beautiful loving mother Ann on his travels to Syracuse and they began a happy life together and married here. They blended their families and Jim brought his wonderful family values and loving kindness and generosity of spirit to us. He was on the Town of Salina Planning Board here and was a Teller for the Election Boards in Liverpool, New York. He was a consummate giver to charities. He had huge records of charities he gave to so he and my mother would alternate the charities they gave to. He worked so very hard all his life for everything and spent his money exactly as he wanted. For his family, for continuing education for many people, for charities always, for the church, for trips to Europe, for 20 years of trips to Florida with my mother and all their friends that he and she loved so very much, and they enjoyed so, so very much. Jim was the most generous and kind soul you would ever know to everyone. He could fix anything you gave him, re-wire lamps, fix any electrical, set up anything for you. When Ann’s son needed Jim to move him here from NYC when he was ill, Jim drove the U-Haul truck down there to move him to Syracuse. He assisted all the family whenever they needed help with anything, if it was help with their home, money for something, for their kid, for college, whenever graves needed to be tended to, he did them, he was always there for anyone and everyone. You will never find anyone as generous or as giving as Jim Murty. He was a great family provider to all his family. His three grandsons would come up in the Summer to Syracuse and he would take them to the State Fair. He loved Syracuse but he always made sure he made his trips to Buffalo and Rochester to see his loving and wonderful Murty family and friends. He loved golfing with his friends John Fitzgerald, Bog Dodge and Ron Stott. He loved to be with their friends at the GOP parties and the New Year’s Eve parties and many family events and gatherings and the Murty Weekends and the Murty Family Reunions and the many, many Nesci weddings and many Murty weddings and family events as Jim loved being with family and friends and sharing his loving kindness and smile and great wisdom with everyone. He also taught Defensive Driving courses for many years and loved to always be busy in his office at the house just working on the computer or at his desk. He truly was the greatest! Thank you, Jim, for brightening and enlightening our lives with your gifts of loving kindness and generosity! At the end of their lives in the beautiful home that my mother and Jim shared here, Jim’s beautiful daughters and granddaughters made a wonderful, loving last Thanksgiving for them. The great perfection that was Jim Murty truly was gifted onto them. They really were there for my mother and Jim. What a blessing he was to them and they to him. As Jim was a Great Blessing to All of Us.
A Funeral Mass was held at St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Somerville on December 18, 2020.
