James W. Tierney's Obituary
James W. Tierney, 86, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday at Van Duyn Home and Hospital. He was born in Syracuse and graduated from Eastwood High School. Jim was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard for over 20 years. He was the North East Regional Manager with Grand Union Supermarkets for several years, before retiring in 1989. Jim later worked for St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, retiring as Head of Maintenance. He was also a communicant of St. Peter’s Church in Saratoga, NY, serving as Eucharistic Minister and usher. Jim was an avid runner and ran the Utica Boilermaker for over 29 years. He also enjoyed skiing and was a member of the Gore Mountain Ski Patrol.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Delores M. (Cedrone) Tierney; his daughter, Marie Dittmar of Manlius, NY; his son, John (Christine) Tierney of Baldwinsville; 7 grandchildren, Rhiannin, Nathan, Nicole, Ryan, Justin, James and Eion; 5 great-grandchildren, Joseph, Lucas, Callen, Oliver, Tristian, and his sister, Eileen McCrumb of Florida.
A Memorial Service in celebration of James’ life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at St. Peter’s Church in Saratoga, NY.
