James V. Vaccaro's Obituary
James V. Vaccaro, 98, of Fairmount, passed away May 16, 2023 at St. Camillus Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Syracuse and graduated from North High School in 1942. James served as a Seaman First Class with the U.S. Coast Guard for 3 years during WWII. He was hired by General Electric Company in 1946 to participate in the first 4-year Drafting Apprentice Training Course in Syracuse and retired from GE as a manager after 43 dedicated years. James was an active member of Holy Family Church and was President of Holy Family Church Senior Citizens as well as an usher at the church for several years. He was also a member of the Italian American Athletic Club (IAAC) and General Electric Elfun Society. James was an avid golfer, enjoyed cross country skiing and was an amateur artist. He enjoyed hosting many 4th of July picnics at home and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Philomena (Rota) Vaccaro and his sister, Agnes Bonura.
James is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Mary (Orsini) Vaccaro; his daughter, Lorraine Wegerski; his son, James (Denise) Vaccaro; four grandchildren, Andrea (Chris) Pallone, Jenna (Kreis) McDowell, Tara (Chase) Muratore and Anthony Vaccaro; seven great-grandchildren, Alexa, Anthony, Jackson, Luke, Anthony, Briana and Dominic; two siblings, Dolores Davies and Nick (Ann) Vaccaro, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of James’ life at 10:00 am in Holy Family Church. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Monday, May 22, 2023 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR.
