Janet (Tomidy) Curtis' Obituary
It is with profound sadness and the heaviest of hearts to announce the passing of Janet (Tomidy) Curtis, age of 72, of Lacona, NY on Sunday, July 19, 2026. She was born on March 11, 1954 in Utica, NY. Janet was one of five Tomidy siblings.
Janet taught kindergarten for over 29 years at South Jefferson Central School. She was a tireless union advocate for her colleagues. She spent 10 years as labor relations specialist for NYSUT.
Janet was a passionate gardener as evidenced by the park that she created at home. She loved outdoor activities that included landscaping all four seasons. She was an avid walker, seen throughout the north country on backroads, trails in the woods, and walking on the beaches of Lake Ontario and Fort Myers, Florida. Wherever she traveled she reveled in the sights and sounds of nature. Mornings were spent on the back patio dissecting world events and kicking back. Afternoons in the front garden reflecting upon the day and awaiting sunsets.
Janet's sudden departure leaves a void and she will be greatly missed by family and friends. Janet is survived by the love of her life, Greg Davis; her cherished children, Allyssa Curtis and Jonathan Curtis and her beloved grandchildren, Grace and Emily.
Per Janet's wishes there will be no services. A celebration of Janet's life for her friends and family will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Janet's name be made to the South Jefferson Backpack Program, PO Box 49, Adams Center, NY 13606. This is a program that provides for food and supplies for the neediest of the school districts families on weekends and throughout the year.
