Jean Adele Aiello 's Obituary
Jean Adele (Mancini) Aiello, born January 19, 1921 in Merolo, Italy passed away in her adopted hometown of Syracuse, NY on October 13, 2010. Jean immigrated with her family through Ellis Island at age 6 and was schooled in the Syracuse public school system completing her studies at Syracuse Central High School in 1938 during which time she became a world class accordionist with accomplishments that included first prize in the N.Y.S. Fair Accordion Contest in 1934 and first prize in the Petta Accordion Contest awarded by renowned "Pietro Diero" in 1936. Jean put aside a promising career to become a wife and mother, marrying Chris Aiello, Jr. in 1939 and raising her sons, Louis P. and Thomas R., in the years that followed. She was a consummate homemaker whose love of family and all children was second to none. She was able to help support the family at various times as a sales representative and service manager at notable local furniture stores including Fleischman's Furniture. Jean was predeceased by her parents, Luigi and Maria Mancini and her sister, Theresa Cummings and most notably by her husband, Chris Aiello, Jr. in 1992. She is survived by her 2 sons, Louis P. (Anita) Aiello and Dr. Thomas R. (Terry) Aiello; 7 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Julie) Aiello, Melissa (Joseph) Campanino Christopher, David, Jonah, Justin and Jordan Aiello and 8 great-grandchildren, David, Michael, Rachel, Zoe, Nicky, Cameron, Mackenzie and Angelina; sisters, Pauline Costantini and Lillian Zongrone as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jean led a long and full life and the lessons taught and exemplified, like our love for her, will never die. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 9:00 AM in the Thomas J. Pirro Funeral Home and 10:00 AM in St. Daniel's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM. Contributions in Jean's name may be made to either The Baldwin Breast Cancer Foundation or The Respiratory Therapy Department at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center.
