Jean R. (Ferara) Powers' Obituary
Jean (Ferara) Powers, 81, of Elbridge, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2025. A beloved mother and grandmother, Jean, “Jeanie” to her friends, lived an amazingly full life.
Born in the Bronx on November 14, 1943, to the late Paul and Olga (Biedermann) Ferara, Jean was a graduate of Walton High School in the Class of 1962. She raised three sons in Greenwich, CT before moving to Pulaski, NY for her “golden years.” There, she spent her time riding Harleys and enjoying the wide-open space that Upstate provided. She loved to travel, driving thousands of miles behind the wheel of her truck to visit friends and family all over the country – especially to sunny Florida – or more recently on cruises to visit new countries. Even after a motorcycle accident took a portion of her right leg, “Peg Leg” Powers didn’t let anything stop her from living her life and doing everything she wanted to do – riding, albeit on a trike instead of a bike and backyard kickball.
Retired for over 20 years, she filled her days with family, friends, and her beloved dogs. After her accident, Jean became a member of an amputee group – forming lifelong friendships and traveling on trips, even a cruise. Jean joined the North Country Christian Church and quickly found a second home there at bible study and Sunday services.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her older brother Paul Ferara.
She is survived by her loving children, Howard (Wendy) of Greenwich, CT; Paul (Laurie) of Norwalk, CT; and John (Mindy) of Elbridge, NY; her grandchildren: Brittany, Nicole, Paul, Michael, Jessica, Erica (Steve), and RJ (Emily); her great-grandchildren: Alyssia and Ryder; her brother Donald Ferara (Katherine) and her nephew Kenneth Ferara.
Jean will be deeply missed, but her strong faith and lasting legacy will live on in all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held for family and friends at North Country Christian Church, 49 Salisbury Street, Lacona, NY, 13083 on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow.
Her internment will be held in Hawthorne, NY at a later date.
